Welcome to Music (Multi Grade Level)

Unit: Welcome to Music

Lesson Focus: In the first week of getting to know students, this lesson is meant to allow students to feel rhythm and allow the teacher to get a better understanding of student's abilities and understanding of ensemble music making.

Grade 7/MYP2 Unit 2

Unit: That's Why They Call it the Blues

Lesson Focus: In previous lessons students have been introduced to the Blues and specifically the 12 bar blues. This lesson uses that knowledge as a basis to build on the skill of improvising.

Grade 8/MYP3 Unit 2

Unit: Children's Theatre (IDU)

Lesson Focus: Students are being exposed to different forms of music in theatre- in this lesson they are looking at what makes music in horror. Looking at the example of Sweeney Todd (and by proxy musical theatre).

Students will examine the music together as well as take elements from the piece to make a children's song more like a horror piece.

Grade 9/MYP4 Unit 1 (DL)

Unit: Videogame Music

Lesson Focus: In the previous lesson students reviewed what a leitmotif was. In this lesson they work on identifying leitmotifs and creating their own leitmotifs for new characters. They are doing this using a new software beepbox.co

Grade 9/MYP4 Final Unit

Unit: The Musician in Me

Lesson Focus: Introducing students to the DP Music Terminology of Contexts in music. This lesson has students exploring their local or global context and begins with an introductory activity where students examine a variety of pieces, identify them, and place them in their contexts.

DP 1 Experimenting Unit

Unit: Postmodern Jukebox Experiments

Lesson Focus: Students are examining the work of Postmodern Jukebox and how they experiment with music to create change in genre. In this lesson students are comparing the adjustments PMJ have made to their experiments and addressing the key changes needed to adjust the genre of a piece of music.
